Ongoing GP care

Ongoing GP care and follow-up with HerDoc

HerDoc welcomes repeat appointments. Return for the same concern, discuss information gathered between appointments or choose a HerDoc GP to help you understand the next step.

Can HerDoc provide ongoing GP care?

Yes. HerDoc provides ongoing care and welcomes repeat appointments. You can choose the same HerDoc GP again when that GP has an available appointment, or choose another HerDoc GP. Some concerns can continue by phone, while others need examination, local testing or face-to-face care.

Online GP appointments for women

Book online, then speak by phone with an AHPRA-registered Australian GP.

GP care that fits women's lives

HerDoc supports general health, women's health and life-stage concerns, where telehealth is suitable.

How it works

Book online

Choose an appointment time that suits you.

Speak with an Australian GP

Talk by phone with an AHPRA-registered doctor. Your GP can provide advice and, where clinically appropriate, discuss prescriptions, certificates, referrals, pathology requests or follow-up guidance during the appointment.

Often suitable for

  • General health and mental wellbeing
  • Women's health, menopause and perimenopause
  • Medication advice and prescriptions
  • Medical certificates, referrals and pathology requests

Not for urgent care

HerDoc is not for emergencies, crisis support or symptoms that need immediate hands-on care.

  • Chest pain, breathing difficulty or severe symptoms
  • Sudden or rapidly worsening symptoms
  • Mental health crisis or risk of harm
  • Symptoms that need a physical examination

For urgent or severe symptoms, call 000 or seek emergency care.

Returning for the same concern is a normal part of care

Not every health question is settled in one appointment. Symptoms may change, a treatment may need review, a home reading may add useful information or a test result may become available later.

You can return to HerDoc to discuss:

  • fatigue or low energy that is continuing or affecting daily life
  • established asthma and how symptoms or control have changed
  • home blood-pressure readings and related questions
  • a result from pathology or imaging requested through HerDoc
  • what has changed since an earlier appointment
  • the next step in a plan already discussed with a GP

Choose the continuity that works for you

Log in to your HerDoc dashboard or portal, select the option to rebook and choose the GP you want. The same GP can only be booked when they have an available appointment, so another doctor may be the practical choice when you want to speak sooner.

Whichever GP you choose, have the earlier plan, changes since the last appointment, current medicines and any relevant records or readings handy. You do not need to recreate every detail from memory.

Four ways to continue the conversation

  • Fatigue and low energy: discuss persistent tiredness without having to decide its cause first.
  • Established asthma: talk through control, symptoms, current care and whether a face-to-face review would add something a phone call cannot.
  • Home blood-pressure readings: share a pattern of readings and discuss symptoms, medicines and whether local measurement or examination is needed.
  • Results and follow-up: understand repeat bookings, HerDoc-requested results, separate fees and sharing information with your regular GP.

How results and later appointments work

Pathology and imaging results requested through HerDoc return to HerDoc. When a result is available, HerDoc sends you an SMS and email with a link to your dashboard. Log in, select the option to rebook and choose the GP you want; the notification tells you that a result is available, while the GP appointment is where the result is considered in context.

Every results or follow-up appointment is separately booked and paid. You may choose the GP who made the original request if they have an available appointment, or another HerDoc GP.

Keeping your regular GP informed

Ask the doctor during your appointment if you want a consultation summary, referral or relevant result sent to your regular GP. The doctor can arrange this to help connect a HerDoc appointment with care you receive elsewhere.

Records are not sent automatically, and HerDoc does not automatically receive results ordered outside HerDoc. See the results and follow-up guide for the practical boundaries and the privacy policy for how HerDoc handles health information.

When continuing online may not be enough

New, changing or complex concerns may need a physical examination, local observations, lung-function testing, an ECG, pathology, imaging or another service. If intake determines before the GP consultation that telehealth is not appropriate, you receive a clear explanation, the consultation does not proceed and you are not charged.

Once the GP consultation has started, the consultation fee applies, including when the GP recommends face-to-face care or another service. The appointment has still been used to assess the concern and explain the next step.

Do not wait for a routine HerDoc appointment if symptoms are severe, sudden, rapidly worsening or feel dangerous. Call Triple Zero (000) for an emergency or seek prompt local medical care when advised.

When telehealth may not be suitable

  • Concerns needing physical examination
  • Concerns needing immediate local observations or testing
  • Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms
  • Emergencies

When to seek urgent care

Call Triple Zero (000) for an emergency. Seek prompt local care for severe, sudden, rapidly worsening or dangerous symptoms.

  • Severe or sudden symptoms
  • Rapidly worsening symptoms
  • Chest pain, stroke signs or severe breathing difficulty
  • Collapse or another emergency

FAQs

Can HerDoc provide ongoing GP care?

Yes. HerDoc welcomes repeat appointments for the same concern, a changing symptom, home readings, results or the next step in an earlier plan. The GP can discuss what has changed and whether care can continue by phone or needs another setting.

Can I book another appointment for the same health concern?

Yes. Returning for another appointment is a normal part of care when symptoms continue, new information becomes available or a plan needs review. Each appointment is booked and paid for separately.

Can I choose the same HerDoc GP again?

Yes. Log in to your HerDoc dashboard or portal, select the option to rebook and choose that GP when they have an available appointment. You can also choose another HerDoc GP if you prefer or if the original GP is not available at a useful time.

Can I discuss fatigue or low energy with an online GP?

Yes. You can book to discuss persistent tiredness, exhaustion or low energy even if you do not know the cause. The fatigue guide explains what information may help and when examination or testing may be useful.

Can an online GP help with ongoing asthma questions?

Sometimes. If you have established asthma, you can discuss changes in symptoms, current care, an existing action plan or home readings. New breathing symptoms, a significant flare-up or questions needing chest examination, lung-function testing or an inhaler-technique check need local or face-to-face assessment.

Can I discuss home blood-pressure readings online?

Yes. If you can measure your blood pressure at home, you can discuss the readings, related symptoms and current medicines with a HerDoc GP. The GP may still recommend local measurements, an examination or tests.

What happens when HerDoc receives my pathology or imaging results?

HerDoc-requested pathology and imaging results return to HerDoc. HerDoc sends an SMS and email with a link to your dashboard when a result is available; log in and rebook with your chosen GP. The notification itself is not an interpretation.

Do I pay separately for follow-up and results appointments?

Yes. Every follow-up or results appointment is a separately booked and paid HerDoc consultation. See HerDoc pricing for the current short- and long-consultation fees.

What happens if intake determines that telehealth is not appropriate?

If that decision is made before the GP consultation, you receive a clear explanation, the consultation does not proceed and you are not charged. Once the GP consultation has started, the fee applies, including when the GP recommends face-to-face care or another service.

When might ongoing care need a face-to-face GP or another service?

Another service may be needed when the concern requires physical examination, local measurements, urgent testing, close monitoring or care that cannot be provided safely by phone. The GP can explain what needs to happen next and how promptly.
